WHAT’S THE ISSUE?
This is a subtly visual effect that the waves or rippling appears on the surface of the model and most people will overlook this small annoying issues. The position of the rippling appeared and the severity of this problem are random and unreasonable.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
∙ Vibrations
∙ Printer Losing Alignment
∙ Printing Too Fast
∙ Printing Temperature Not Appropriate
∙ Outer Walls
TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS
Vibrations
Vibration can divide into the printer’s own and the external environment cause. The vibration of the external environment refers to the printer shaking caused by running on the unstable platform. And the vibration itself is caused by the motor when it is working and this can only be minimized and cannot be completely eliminated.
REDUCE External VIBRATIONS
In order to avoid the external vibration, please put the printer on a stable and solid platform to avoid shaking when the printer is working.
Printer Losing Alignment
Rippling on the model may also be caused by the printer losing alignment. Any wear, looseness or poor movement of printer components may make the rippling more obvious.
CHECK THE BEARINGS
The bearing will be worn as the use time becomes longer. Check all the bearing and the movement of the nozzle are still working smoothly with the power off. In this case, you can move the nozzle manually to complete the checking.
MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS TIGHT
Any loosen parts on the printer will affect the print quality. Therefore, in daily maintenance, please ensure that everything is bolted and tight.
ADD OIL
Check all the rods, clean the dust and dirt, then add some grease to ensure the smooth movement of the printer.
Printing Too Fast
The faster the printing speed works, the easier vibration of the printer happens, so that the waves will be an issue that appears on the model.
SLOW DOWN THE PRINT
Try to reduce the print speed to see if the problem improves. If you need to print fast, increase the flow rate and extrusion temperature of the filament.
ADJUST THE FIRMWARE ACCELERATION
For professionals, you can check the printer’s firmware code and adjust the acceleration value.
One for advanced users only, check the printer’s firmware and adjust the values in the code for the acceleration and jerk, you’ll then need to upload the firmware back to your machine.
Printing Temperature
Excessive temperature may cause strange lines in the vertical of the print.
Decrease the print temperature
Try to lower the printing temperature a little to see if the problem can be improved.
Outer Walls
Sometimes, although the print look like ringing, it feels smooth. This may be an optical illusion caused by ghosting.
Go to Ghosting section for more details of troubleshooting this issue.
